Converting Rubber Into Oil

Posted: July 6th, 2008 | Author: | Filed under: alternative fuels, gas, gas is expensive, my farts don't make the best fuel ever, oil | 3 Comments »

With gas prices nearing like… eighty bucks a gallon, scientists are finally stepping up and finding alternate sources of fuel and oil. I tried running a vehicle off of farts and body odor, but my neighbors complained about the smell.

Fortunately, some scientists have figured out how to get oil from tires and plastic. Because, you know- that ‘burning rubber smell’ is so much more awesome than my flatulence.

So how do you get oil out of tires? With microwaves, of course. Why didn’t I think of that? All this time I was trying fire. My neighbors just love me, by the way.

There’s a video below with some science guy to explain this stuff for ya.

Thanks to High T3ch , whose writer smells like sizzling bacon, for the tip

I just recently learned plastic was made from oil and after thinking of all the things that were made of plastic immediately though man, we’re screwed!

This is why they recycle old tires to convert into oil and other lubricants. Good post!

I’ve heard of tires being burned for fuel in factories, I know they use tires in asphalt, and I’ve heard of them being turned into retreaded tires, but I never knew that they could get the oil back out of them… Actually, I didn’t know that they were made from oil in the first place. Just goes to show that you can’t know everything!
