While I give these guys kudos for thinking out of the box, I have to say that this design isn’t exactly a winning hand… like… ahem .. a royal flush. Yes, I think that this toy is about as crappy as that pun. I mean, what’s next, a transformer that turns into a blackhead extractor ? This is one time that I wish the designers would have stuck to a winning formula, because this design stinks!

Leave it to the Japanese to give us a voice controlled toy that makes you use an accent to control. Given my previous experience using voice recognition technology, I’m not so sure about this toy… My last brush with voice recognition was the game “rainbow six: vegas”. For those of you who don’t know what the heck that is, it’s a tactical shooting game, where you have to take out a bunch of terrorists in Las Vegas. It has a voice recognition, meaning you can yell into your microphone and your guys will try to do what you tell them to… up to a point. You can say things like “wait here”, “go there” ,”follow me”, “stay”,etc… Sadly, you can say something that isn’t in the list of available options, and it will try to do something anyway. Apparently, “Oh Sh–!” means “go over there and get shot”. Let’s just say that it was easier to forget about the voice controls and stick with the good ol’ push button action. I assume it isn’t going to be any easier with this toy, especially considering the commands:

I’m a fidgety kinda guy who likes to bang on things, so this looks like the kind of item that would keep me amused for a while. It’s a drum set that you can play with your fingers… it even records your performances so you can play an encore for your friends. This would be great if I had to wait around somewhere for a long time… let’s hope that for everyone else’s sake that it has an earphone jack! What we have here is an indoor kite. I know it sounds crazy, but it is remote controlled… and has an electric motor in it. Some people would say that makes this a remote controlled… UFO or dirigible or something. I would be one of those people. I would also try to trick the local news into running yet another news story about UFOs over Phoenix [google]. This thing costs about $15, and probably performs as well as you’d expect a remote controlled anything to perform. It’s called the Kazoo… an appropriately off-the-mark name for such a toy, and you can pick it up at Hobbytron, where they have tons of inexpensive remote controlled flying toys. Here we have a robot that transforms from some sort of wild jungle kitty into a USB flash drive. I bet you’re absolutely sick of all the transforming gadgets at this point… Just remember, it could be worse… I could have gone on a three day long horse supplies blogging bender. Neigh! Good thing it’s robots, which are totally awesome, even if they may someday take over the world. Too bad this particular robot is ridiculously overpriced… at $51 for a 2 gig flash drive, it’s trying to take over your wallet if anything. Related Blogs
Here’s one fully awesome USB hub. It’s a transformer that turns into a laptop. As if this wasn’t overflowing with awesome already, it even has a little cassette transformer hiding in it’s chest, which is really old school.
