Smart Cruise Control

bigrigjigDaimler Trucks North America has developed a “Predictive Cruise Control (PCC)” system that saves gas by using vehicle momentum in your favor. MY first thought was that this cruise control would actually add safety or hands-free steering, but that simply isn’t the case. This cruise control system analyzes map and satellite-based previews and then suggests an optimal route one mile ahead while adjusting the engine output for slopes. Meanwhile, truck drivers are still expected to stay alert via any means possible- weight loss pills , white crosses, red bull, or all of the above. If these guys wanted to sleep on the job, they should have become train conductors.

Woman Follows GPS Into A River

Are we relying too much on technology? I don’t think that society as a whole is, but the woman who drove her $190k Mercedes into a washed out road because that is where the GPS told her to go. Even though there were signs that said the road was impassable. I wonder if she’ll try to sue?

On a side note, I live in Arizona. Every year, we have flash floods. And every year, someone thinks that they can cross a flooded road. It has gotten to the point where emergency services are charging people for their rescue. It’s called an idiot law or something to that effect.

Aftermarket HUD

This Aftermarket HUD projects your car’s speed on the windshield. You can even set an alarm to warn you if you’re speeding! This aftermarket heads up display uses GPS technology to determine your speed. This is one of the cooler car accessories that I’ve seen lately.

I test drove a car that displayed the speed onto the windshield. It was a 1992 nissan 240sx. I farted in the car on the test drive, and did a nice fishtail while making a U-turn.
