Bats In Space?

An injured bat decided to go for a ride on the space shuttle. Okay, it didn’t know it was going for a ride, but people are saying that it was injured, so it probably needed a lift anyway. Sadly, this little guy probably froze to death while shooting for the stars.

I heard about this in one of the MER managers (The MER is a back room at Mission Control, the Mission Evaluation Room where safety, comm and track and many other specialists support “the front room”). They were actually pretty bummed about the bat being killed and had taken steps to encourage it to leave before liftoff to no avail.
